What clone-last does

Returning customers are most of a chimney-sweep's book. Clone-last takes the last cert issued against a chimney and pre-fills a new one with everything that does not change: location, appliance, fuel, construction, liner.

You confirm the tests for the new sweep, capture any new defects, sign and issue. Typical time: 30 seconds rather than the four or five minutes of a first-time cert.

What the insurance pack does

Insurers and landlords routinely ask for "proof of sweeping over the last N years." Without the pack, that means digging out PDFs one by one and forwarding them.

Before you start

You will need a TradeBooked account on the Pro or Autopilot plan with trade type set to Chimney sweep, the chimney already on the customer's flue register (see "Build your customer flue register"), and at least one previous cert issued on it for clone-last to work from.

For the insurance pack you need at least one issued sweep cert on the customer record. More is better; the pack scales to as many as you have on file.

Common questions

How is clone-last different from just opening the last cert?

Opening the last cert shows you a locked PDF. Clone-last opens the sweep record builder with all the persistent fields pre-filled, so you produce a new issued cert in 30 seconds rather than starting from scratch.

Can I edit a cloned cert before issuing?

Yes. Clone-last only fills the form; nothing is issued until you sign and attest. Change anything that has moved on (e.g. a defect that has been put right) before issue.

Does the insurance pack include defects?

It includes every issued cert in full, so defects recorded at the time appear in the PDF. This is what insurers and landlords expect: a faithful record, not a sanitised summary.

How big is the insurance pack PDF?

It scales with the number of certs. A 5-year history on a single-flue property is usually a few MB. Email providers handle it; the customer just opens the attachment and forwards.
